In just under a year, Sandringham High School has undergone a powerful academic turnaround — led by a cohesive and dedicated teaching team under principal Pascal Rekhoto. The school’s matric pass rate has surged from 46% to an outstanding 94%.

This revival is rooted in Rekhoto’s mission to restore the school’s former prestige and discipline.

“Our turnaround began the day I sat down with our educators,” he said. “We agreed to bring back the standards Sandringham was once known for.”

A key part of the strategy was rolling out extra academic sessions across mornings, afternoons, and school holidays — all driven by the teachers. Their efforts were recognised with financial compensation for additional hours, reinforcing a shared sense of purpose and pride.

Where needed, the school also introduced external subject experts — such as in economics, which saw a dramatic boost in performance. This combination of internal commitment and strategic support has raised academic expectations across the board.

Moving forward, Rekhoto aims to close the gap for the 6% who didn’t pass, focusing on individualized interventions and further peer-assisted learning.

The message is clear: Sandringham High School is back on the map — and its teachers are steering the charge.
