In a determined effort to support academic excellence and ensure top performance in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, Sandringham High School hosted a Winter School Programme for Grade 12 learners from 4 to 11 July 2025.
This intensive, week-long programme took place during the winter break and was designed to consolidate learning, address academic gaps, and prepare learners for the demanding months ahead.

The Winter School programme ran daily from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with additional study sessions in the afternoons. Learners were grouped according to their subject selections and were taught by Sandringham High’s most experienced educators, along with guest tutors from partner institutions and alumni volunteers.
Key subjects covered included:
- Mathematics & Mathematical Literacy

- Business Studies
- Accounting
- Geography
- English Home Language & First Additional Language
- History
Teachers focused on high-yield topics, past paper drills, exam strategies, and addressing common learning challenges.
🌟 A CULTURE OF COMMITMENT
Despite the chilly weather, attendance was excellent throughout the week. Learners showed up with energy and focus—many even arriving early to revise or work in groups. Their commitment reflected a growing academic culture at Sandringham, one that prioritises hard work, resilience, and preparation.
Principal Pascal Rekhoto praised the dedication of both learners and staff:
“Winter School is more than just extra lessons—it’s a symbol of our commitment to academic excellence. Our Grade 12s know what is at stake, and their determination has been truly inspiring.”
💬 LEARNER FEEDBACK
The programme was well received by learners, who appreciated the extra time and attention given to their exam preparation:
“We got to ask questions we don’t always have time for during the term,” said one learner.
“The teachers really went all out for us,” added another.
Breaks were provided with hot meals and refreshments, creating a supportive and focused learning environment throughout the week.
🙏 THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS
This year’s Winter School would not have been possible without the generous support of the broader Sandringham community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to:
- The Den for their generous food and refreshment donations, which kept our learners warm and nourished throughout the week.
- Sandringham High Alumni, whose contributions helped fund educational materials and transport for guest tutors.
- Candidbaby, who kindly donated nutritious health bars to keep learners energized during long study sessions.
Your generosity helped create an environment of care, focus, and encouragement—and for that, we are truly grateful.
🚀 THE ROAD AHEAD
The Winter School initiative is part of Sandringham High’s broader academic support strategy, which includes after-school tutoring, weekend sessions, and mock exams leading up to finals. The school continues to invest in both academic performance and learner wellbeing as it prepares its matrics for the final push.
As Sandringham High’s Class of 2025 enters their final stretch, the impact of Winter School is already being felt—instilling confidence, discipline, and a deeper understanding of the curriculum.
